Supervisors Hear Update From Dickinson County Public Health

September 20, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Statistics show the vast majority of school age children in Dickinson county are up to date on vaccinations. Katy Burke of Dickinson County Public Health told the Board of Supervisors during an update Tuesday they reviewed 2,800 immunizations records of students during the last school year…

“We had 99.75 percent valid certificates. Now that either means they were up to date on immunizations or they were given a provisional, meaning they have some of what they need, they’ve started an immunization series, they just need to catch up so they get a little bit of time, or they have medical or religious exemptions. So almost 100 percent so we’ll hope to see that this year.”

She says that’s also the case with preschool age kids…

“We worked with 12 of the participating preschools and that was almost 675 records that we went through so appreciate all of their help with that, and then again over 99 percent valid records for Dickinson county.”

On another topic, Burke says the Dickinson County Behavioral Health Coalition has had a very successful first year. She says they distributed some 720 goody bags to farmers during the 2022 harvest. Burke says “kindness bags” were also distributed to school kids as part of the program, which also provided information on tobacco and vaping prevention and cessation programs.
