City Of Estherville Continuing Its Neighborhood Facade Grant Program

September 18, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– An incentive program in Estherville that helps homeowners make improvements to the exterior of their residences is being continued for another year. The city council Monday voted unanimously to renew the Neighborhood Facade program through Excel Estherville. City Administrator Penny Clayton told the council the program continues to grow in popularity and she says it’s helping the city improve its looks. She says the grants are competitive in nature…

“Last year we changed the grant program to be a matching grant up to $4,000, so $4,000 on our side matches at least $4,000 on their side for a project and we’ve had pretty good success at getting applicants for this program in years past.”

Clayton says the application for this particular cycle will get underway today (Tuesday)…

“We’ll go ahead and advertise it and then we’ll close it on November 15th Excel then reviews all of those grant applications and makes up to 10 awards based on the project, so it is a competitive grant. There’s no guarantee there until we send you the award letter.”

The program is funded through community betterment funds from the city’s local option sales tax.
