U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar Visits Jackson

September 18, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Jackson, Mn.)– City officials in Jackson Saturday shared their frustrations with U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar over an ongoing delay on a runway reconstruction project at the city’s airport. The federal government contributed $9 million for the construction, which is now complete. But there have been ongoing delays in testing that needs to be done on the new concrete runway, and the Jackson Airport remains under a “closed” status on aviation maps. Klobuchar says the delays are unacceptable…

“What’s interesting about it is you’d have areas of the countries that are much more barren and extreme, and then they couldn’t do that because you’d have no emergency thing, as inconvenient as this is there are surroundings but this cant be the way they do it, because you’d have them closed down for months so that’s why we should look into it. It’s crazy, they should have a temporary status.”

City and county officials also talked to Klobuchar about business, visas, housing, and more during what they say was a constructive meeting Saturday.
