(Spencer)– A project to upgrade traffic signals on Grand Avenue through downtown Spencer is completed just in time for the Clay County Fair. Public Works Director Mark White told the city council Tuesday they’re already seeing an improvement in traffic flow…
“It’s a fully actuated coordinated system. So what does that big, long word mean? Well if you notice at night, and there’s no side street traffic and it’s green all the way through, it’s because there’s no activation from the side street. Before you would have had a scheduled activation from the side streets. Now they’re fully activated so if there’s no traffic, hence the more efficient traffic flow on Grand Avenue. It also allows for detection at each intersection along with the bush buttons. And we’ve gotten some really nice response back on being a little more pedestrian friendly and safer with the countdown as well at the intersections. It’s going well.”
White says the heavier traffic flow next week with the fair should provide a good test for the new system.
