Guitarist Jimmy Ryan to make several Appearances during Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association Hall of Fame Spectacular

August 31, 2023 Becky Thoreson

(Arnolds Park)-Guitarist Jimmy Ryan is among this year’s Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame Inductees. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association’s Hall of Fame festivities will get underway tonight with a special Rock the Roof featuring Iowa Rock Hall of Fame Inductees.
Among them, Jimmy Ryan, who will be inducted this weekend with The Lifetime Achievement Award. “We’re gonna be doing some 50s and 60s old rock and roll, Buddy Holly, The Crickets. I’m gonna perform You’re So Vain, which I had the honor of playing on, and you know, lots of fun songs from the oldies catalog.”
He adds that he’ll be conducting a couple of workshops on Saturday afternoon. “I just go through a bunch of songs and show you how the song evolved from a rough, sort of catchy thing to the final record, and then I do a reading from my book, The Superstar Chronicles which kind of chronicles my life working with a whole bunch of Rock Gods like Carly Simon, Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart, Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, Elton John, all these people I had the great honor to work with, to record and sometimes tour with. So, I read a chapter or two from the book and that’s how it is. It’s kind of like a TED Talk, a musical TED Talk.”
Jimmy Ryan will also perform during the Induction Concert Sunday night, and will perform his solo show next Tuesday at Pearson Lakes Art Center.
