(Spirit Lake)– The help wanted sign is up at the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office. Jarod Fisher helps oversee operations at the Dickinson county jail. He told the Board of Supervisors this week they’re looking to hire more jailers…
“Our jail is busy. We continue to be busy. And mental health transports and mental health is on a rise to where we’re spending extra days, three to four maybe, and our transports are becoming further out as far as Independence, Davenport, and other places. And also picking up other inmates in other counties, people that are wanted or we have to go pick them up in other states as far as Missouri to Colorado. So having additional staff is really needed.”
Fisher says the demands of the job make trying to find someone to fill the positions a real challenge…
“When you tell them what’s required and expectance, they turn it down because maybe holidays, nights, weekends, things like that, or it’s just not their thing. It’s hard to find someone that, you know, can handle it as well; especially when we’re trying to keep people out of jail and try to find services for them as well.”
Anyone who may be interested in becoming a jailer should contact the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.
