You’ll Be Able To Stroll Back In Time This (Thurs.) Evening In Downtown Spirit Lake

August 10, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– You’ll be able to literally take a walk back in time with a special event this (Thurs.) evening in Spirit Lake. Mary Dreier, Director of the Dickinson County Museum, says “A Stroll Back In Time” will be going on from 5:00 until 8:00 pm beginning at the museum, located in the former Milwaukee Road Railroad depot on Keokuk Avenue…

“And we’re inviting folks to stop by the museum first to see our facilitated exhibits here and to also maybe get photos taken with old film and old cameras by Chase Croft, and just hear some stories from around here. And pick up maps that we have created of downtown Spirit Lake and the buildings and businesses that are open tonight for tours. Thanks to the RIDES Transit Company we are having a shuttle service between the museum and downtown tonight so you don’t have to walk. You can hop on a bus and ride downtown. In nine different buildings we have people who will be telling stories about those particular buildings. We also have a booth set up at the Makers Market at the north end in front of Burger and Company.”

One of the highlights will be a tour of the Stevens Block which is undergoing a restoration…

“Folks will be able to go inside the Stevens Block for the first time in a long time and see what’s been happening there. Jonathon Reed, local historian, will be there along with George Cuhay from the Higgins Museum and George will be talking about the bank as it was and even has some original bank notes from that bank to show.”

Dreier says there will also be some entertainment at the museum…

“At 6:30 we have the Boji Strummers coming here and sharing some music. You can sing along if you want, you can just listen if you want. They’re really, really fun.”

The Stroll Back In Time is free, however a freewill donation will be accepted.
