(Spirit Lake)– One person was injured Friday in a collision involving a pickup and a motorcycle just west of the intersection of Highways 9 & 71 and Peoria Avenue in Spirit Lake.
Police say 28-year-old Joshua Hirbe of Spirit Lake was driving a 2019 Kawasaki westbound and had stopped for the stop light. Officers say several witnesses reported Hirbe then took off at a high rate of speed once the light changed. The motorcycle then collided with a 2018 Dodge Ram driven by 59-year-old Donna Shirboun of Spirit Lake, who was turning into Hy-Vee.
Hirbe was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with incapacitating injuries. No injuries were reported to Shirboun.
Police say the high speed the motorcycle was said to be traveling was likely a contributing factor in the collision.
The collision took place a little before 3:00 pm.
