City Of Milford Moving Ahead With Housing Study

July 25, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Milford)– The city of Milford is moving ahead with a housing study. The city council Monday evening approved a recommendation from the city’s Housing Commission to proceed with the analysis, pending a favorable review of a contract by the City Attorney.

The study will be conducted by the RDG firm at a cost not to exceed $18,500. The money will come out of the city’s Economic Development account.

The goal is to have the study done sometime in December of this year. It will identify the demand for various types of housing in the city but will not identify possible locations for developments.

Mayor Steve Anderson said he’s concerned over a trend by those who purchase homes and convert them to short term rental units or VRBO’s. A representative of the South Okoboji Development group who addressed the council on the matter said the issue could be addressed through covenants.
