(Arnolds Park)- Tommy James & The Shondells return to The Iowa Great Lakes this weekend. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
Tommy James & The Shondells will take the stage at Preservation Plaza Saturday night, as part of the Live at The Lake Concert Series.
Tommy recalls playing the Lakes Area in the past. “Back in ’66, it was like literally July of ’66, and we came back in 2019, and after all those years, they had all the original posters up, and some of the original people that had been there, some of the fans that had been there in 1966, and of course, they were in their 60s and 70s. So, it was really a gas. It was really fun and I keep saying, you know, at this point in my career, so many of the fans are like extended family now. So, it was really great to come back and see everybody again. It’s gonna be even more fun now.”
He says he’ll play his classic hits, as well as something new. “We’re gonna do, of course, as many of the hits as we can, but we’re also gonna throw in a couple of new things. We’re in the middle of film production now with our book, Me, The Mob and The Music, is gonna be turned into a film. At the very end of the film, the closing credits, is a brand new version of I Think We’re Alone Now. Totally different from the pop record that we had out in ’67.”
The free concert at Preservation Plaza will start at 7:30 Saturday night, followed by the fireworks.
