Curtain About To Go Up On Next Production Of Season At Okoboji Summer Theatre

July 10, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Okoboji)– The curtain goes up Tuesday evening on the next production of the season at Okoboji Summer Theatre, titled “Promises, Promises”. Bernard Monroe, Director, Choreographer and Artistic Director, says it’s a musical based on the late 1960’s…

“It’s really a battle of the sexes that takes place in the late 1960’s under the machinations of corporate America in New York City. And as always with a musical of this period, love wins out and in the end the guy does get the girl.”

He adds it features a number of songs that were big hits during that time…

“I’ll Never Fall In Love Again, the song Promises, Promises that Dione Warwick had a big hit is in this. And also a lot of songs that weren’t necessarily on his hit parade but are just equal to the task of everything he ever released during that time in the ’60’s. It’s great music, it’s a great book, lots of wit, lots of laughs, it’s done with a great sophistication and done with the best Neil Simon of the period which of course is his ’60’s writing.”

Monroe says it also features a lot of dancing…

“One is actually very famous, it’s called Turkey Lurky which they always show every Christmastime I think around the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and it’s a great number. A lot of high energy dancing. And then the opening of the second act has a great soft shoe dance number. So I think that if you like singing, dancing and a great book and some great acting, this is going to be your show.”

Tickets are available by stopping by the OST Box Office or by emailing boxoffice@okobojisummertheatre.org.
