Estherville Officials Remind Everyone Local Access Will Be Maintained During Upcoming Hwy 9 Closure

July 05, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– As we reported earlier in the week, a stretch of Highway 9 from the intersection at Woody’s Pizza up Half Mile Hill to the far western city limits will be closed to through traffic beginning this coming Monday as road construction in that area kicks into high gear. City Administrator Penny Clayton gave an update at Monday’s City Council meeting, reminding everyone that provisions will be made to access homes and businesses in that area…

“People who live there and need to get to businesses there will still be able to get there. They will be traversing over rock and dirt and various stages of pavement because they’ll remove some pavement, they’ll put in some sub-base and they’ll continue that process going up the hill and then I think they do paving kind of late in big strips. So the contractor is trying to get out and talk to the people who live there. We’ve been sending out memos to try to keep people informed, but yeah, 1:00 next Monday is the target for that.”

That closure is expected to remain in place until September 7th. Clayton also gave an update on the work taking place on Highway 4 on south side of Estherville…

“They have started removals and have started work on removals and building a base, so that will continue. I think their target is mid-September to finish that.”

Clayton says some complications with sewer lines is what resulted in the delayed closure of Highway 9, which was originally scheduled to take place today (Wed.).
