Spencer City Council To Decide Soon How To Fill Upcoming Vacancy

July 05, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– The Spencer City Council will have a vacancy effective the end of this month. As we’ve reported previously, councilman Bill Orrison has resigned from his ward two seat effective July 31st. Mayor Steve Bomgaars announced at Monday’s City Council meeting the council will make a decision on how to fill the seat during an upcoming Committee of the Whole session…

“We have 60 days from July 31st to either appoint someone to fill councilman Orrison’s term or to have a special election at that time. So we will be having a meeting, a Committee of the Whole meeting, to decide what direction the council wants to take and what the timeframe will be, etcetera. One person from ward two has indicated to me that they are interested in that appointment until the end of the year, so if there are other people out in ward two who are interested they should email me or they can email Mary Beth Breidinger and indicate their interest in appointment. That doesn’t mean we are going to have an appointment necessarily, but that’s the council decision. The council’s decision is either as I said prior to have a special election or to make an appointment to fulfill the term.”
