(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce has been forced to postpone tonight’s (July 4th) fireworks display after a fire damaged the barge used to launch them. The fireworks show has been re-scheduled for Saturday, July 8th.
KUOO news has learned the barge used to launch the fireworks caught on fire at the conclusion of Monday night’s display on Big Spirit Lake. The Spirit Lake Fire Department and Iowa Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene. Fire extinguishers were used to put out the fire. No injuries were reported, but officials say there was enough damage to the barge that requires repairs before another show can be launched.
Officials with the Arnolds Park Amusement Park say the Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters concert at Preservation Plaza IS STILL ON AS SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT (Tues.).
