(Spencer)– The Spencer City Council voted unanimously Monday evening to approve the hiring of Jesse Coulson as new Fire Chief. Coulson comes to Spencer from the Dubuque Fire Department. City councilman Ron Hanson served on a committee that oversaw the interview process…
“I’d just like to thank all the people that applied for this. We had three very good people going for this job. It was a tough project. We did it all on one full day. Me and Brian sat through a lot of interviews and the Mayor did, too, and I really feel it was a good process and really do appreciate everyone who came forward and applied.”
Coulson replaces longtime Chief Jon Conyn who recently retired.
On another matter, the council Monday evening was originally scheduled to act on the final plat for Kwik Star, but the matter was taken off the agenda at the last minute. City Manager Dan Gifford says they’re getting closer to an agreement, but some final details still need to be worked out…
“I know people are waiting with baited breath about Kwik Star. We’re getting closer all the time. I had three meetings with them last week to try to get it. We’re missing just a couple of documents now so we’re getting closer all the time and the city’s helping them all we can, step-by-step and meeting, like I said, June meetings with them and trying to explain where we’re at. We should get there eventually pretty soon here, I think. We should be ready to accept this.”
It’s the second time the matter had to be scratched due to final details still being worked out.
