(Spirit Lake)– Extremely poor air quality caused by smoke from wildfires burning in Canada continues to impact the region, and will likely be a factor for some time to come. Air quality alerts are in effect for northwest Iowa through today (Wed.) and until Noon Thursday for southwest Minnesota.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency say fine particulate levels will remain near or above EPA health standards. They say this could cause issues for those with heart conditions or respiratory ailments such as asthma and COPD.
Those who are sensitive to poor air quality are being told to limit outdoor activities and stay indoors in an air conditioned environment with windows and doors closed.
