(Estherville)– Officials have released the name of a man who died in a house fire Saturday in Estherville. The victim is identified as 61-year-old Michael Howard of Estherville.
Estherville firefighters were called at 7:22 am Saturday to 219 South 8th Street after a passerby discovered smoke coming from a residence. Authorities attempted to gain entry only to find heavy smoke coming from a ground floor entry door. Firefighters arrived and an aerial truck was deployed to gain access to the roof. Additional firefighters gained entrance to the home and after about a half hour later found Howard.
Authorities say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
