(Estherville)– Two major road construction projects continue in Estherville. One of those is on Highway 9 on the city’s west side. City Administrator Penny Clayton updated the city council Monday. She says the intersection at Woody’s Pizza is scheduled to reopen July 5th, weather permitting. She says at that point, Highway 9 from just west of the Des Moines River bridge to the western city limits, including half-mile hill, will then close to through traffic as construction moves to that area…
“We have had a meeting with emergency responders to discuss their needs and the communication, so we have a first line of contact directly to somebody who’s going to be on site most of the time or who will answer our call when we’re going to be coming through with emergency vehicles, so.”
While that stretch of Highway 9 will be closed to through traffic, Clayton says there will still be access for businesses and homes in that area…
“They’ll work on it in sections and try to remove and fill and keep moving that way because they will provide access to the homeowners via either paved what they haven’t taken out yet or the rock base that’s there. It will not necessarily be the prettiest but they’ll be having trucks drive on this rock base so it will be suitable, you know, for people to drive on.”
Clayton says road construction on Highway 4 on the south side of Estherville is also kicking into high gear. She says that road will be closed to through traffic from the railroad underpass to just south of the city limits beginning this coming Monday, June 26th…
“That will be a hard close before the underpass but after all of the businesses there and homes and so that will be a hard close, you won’t be able to get through there at all. They’re going to be constructing residences who live south of the bridge, they’re going to be requesting that those residents take the detour and come up from the south. That will be the shortest amount of rock to drive on to get to their property.”
Cedar Valley Corporation is the general contractor on both projects.
