Study Of 140th Street Corridor On South Side Of Big Spirit Lake About To Get Underway

June 13, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Orleans)– An extensive study into the 140th Street Corridor, the road that goes along the south shore of Big Spirit Lake, is about to get underway. The city of Orleans recently authorized an engineering firm to proceed with the study. Derek Behrens of Bolton and Menk told the city council the study is getting underway this week…

“They’re going to start with setting up cameras at the intersections and get data on that. They’ll have their trail cams set up, is how I understand it, so it will be more elaborate. We’ll have our transportation field crews on site just gathering data on parking, pedestrians, walkways, bikes, things like that.”

Behrens says the study will also gather data on crash history and speeding in that area. He adds they’ll be hosting an event this Saturday, June 17th, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Spillway to answer questions from residents and gather feedback.

Behrens says the data that’s collected will then be presented to the city for consideration of future improvements along the 140th Street corridor through Orleans.
