E’Ville City Council Threatening To Evict Airport Hangar Tennant

June 06, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– The city of Estherville is threatening to evict a tennant renting a hangar at the city’s airport for allegedly violating terms of a rental agreement. The matter was brought to the city council Monday by a representative of the Estherville Airport Commission…

“Because for like 10 years this guy’s been sitting with his airplane. Yeah, we get hangar fees, but that’s it. We don’t get anything else. No fuel, no nothing. But he’s also putting our FAA funding source in jeopardy because he doesn’t have an air-worthy plane.”

Following a lengthy discussion the city council directed the city’s legal department to give the hangar tennant until July 5th to prove the plane can be flown, and whether or not it’s been flown in the past year. If that turns out otherwise, the city Attorney will then be directed to begin eviction proceedings.

The Airport Commission member added that body has been dealing with the issue for quite some time, adding they just recently discovered through city code that any eviction matters need to be taken before the city council. She requested the council consider and act on a protocol for an eviction process which could then be turned over to the commission.
