Dr. Sarah Spaulding to discuss Diatom Research at Friends of Lakeside Lab’s Speaker Series Tuesday

May 30, 2023 Becky Thoreson

(Okoboji)-The Friends of Lakeside Lab’s Speaker Series continues on Tuesday evening with a talk by Dr. Sarah Spaulding, Ecologist with the U.S. Geological Survey.

Spaulding says she’ll talk about the important role that Iowa Lakeside Laboratory plays in diatom research and education:

“It’s amazing, the extent that Lakeside Lab has played in training people around the world, and many diatomists, probably most diatomists in North America, can trace some of their lineage to Iowa Lakeside Lab. It’s really kind of amazing, these personal connections, of people being trained during the summer in McBride. It really began with Gene Stormer in 1963, he started a clinic on Diatoms, and the class has been offered ever since.”

Dr. Spaulding will speak at Iowa Lakeside Lab Tuesday evening starting at 7 o’clock at Mahan Hall. The talk is free and open to the public.
