(Arnolds Park)-The new Okoboji Rocks Concert Series will kick off on Saturday night. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association will present Jett Threatt, A Tribute to Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Saturday night at The Roof Garden Ballroom. It’s the first concert in the new Okoboji Rocks series.
Lead Singer Karie Skogman says, she formed the band a few years ago. “Ever since I can remember, with the first band I was ever in, everybody has told me that I sound like Joan Jett. So, in about 2017, a really good friend of mine who plays in an AC/DC tribute band called Rolling Thunder, his name is Mark DeKalb, he said, Karie, you really need to form a Joan Jett tribute band, and so, I pondered it for awhile and it sounded like a great idea because you don’t have to play that long in tribute bands versus a cover band. So, at the end of 2018, I retired from the band I was in for ten years and I formed Jett Threatt.”
She adds that the band stays true to the authentic sound of the legendary Joan Jett. “We play ’em, all their hits, and we play some of her deeper cuts, really good songs. Lots of people probably don’t know, but Joan Jett has quite an extensive library of songs, so we have many to choose from.”
The doors will open at 6:30 with the concert at 7:30 Saturday night.
