(Okoboji)-The Summer Speaker series will get underway this week. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Friends of Lakeside Lab will present their Speaker Series on Tuesday evenings at Iowa Lakeside Laboratory.
Lakeside’s Executive Director Dr. Mary Skopec will kick off the Series on May 23rd. “I’m hoping to talk about the history of The Lab. You know, we’ve been around since 1909, doing high quality immersive education, nature-based education, getting folks outside, understanding the natural world, and I’m going to talk about where we are now and what we’re hoping to do in the future.”
She adds that a number of free family activities are offered on the Lakeside Lab Campus during the summer. “We have our Tuesday Speaker Series, and that’s really meant to highlight speakers from around the world who will come talk about their amazing research and work. They make it very approachable to the general public. We have a lot of really fun, hands-on activities for the kids. Our Wild Wednesdays happen Wednesdays at 7 pm in Mahan Hall, and will feature a number of different programs, everything from understanding mammals to pollinators to amphibians. We’ll do a Kayak Clean-up after The Fourth of July, and then the last thing is, we’ve got our Scavenger Hunt, as well. People are invited to come out and walk the grounds and try to find a little treasure that we’ve hidden on campus.”
The Tuesday Speaker Series will be held at 7 p.m. at Mahan Hall on The Iowa Lakeside Laboratory Campus and is free and open to the public.
