(Arnolds Park)-The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association will present a special documentary in early June.
KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association will present two showings of the film The Day the Music Died: The Story of Don McLean’s American Pie on June 3 and 4.
Connie Valens, the younger sister of Richie Valens is featured in the film. “I wasn’t supposed to be a part of the project. It was kind of a spur of the moment thing, and I was invited to fill in, but there was excitement in that invitation because they realized who was filling in, his sister, and they said well, this is even better. I’m featured in the docu-film in 2 or 3 places. Honestly, I’ve only watched it twice and I didn’t count. It was kind of surreal. You know, most people recognize me in Clear Lake, and the part that was filmed in Iowa, is filmed in Clear Lake, the corn fields where the plane went down.”
She notes that she will be on hand for the showing of the film. “I will be present, hopefully get to help MC a little bit and be there for some Q & A. They’re going to be really surprised by the people involved, people like Garth Brooks, all these musicians have recorded this piece, and I didn’t know that. It’s for everybody. It’s really going to touch everyone. So, we really just invite everyone to come. Bring the kids!”
