(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College has undergone a complete transformation. Bob Leifeld, Vice President of Administration at Iowa Lakes, tells KUOO news construction is now complete on the new Regional Career Academy…
“The college partnered with four area high schools and with those high schools we’re able to offer programming that they were wanting to meet the needs of the region. Specifically getting training like in electrical, HVAC, Ag Technology, and Certified Nursing Assistant or patient care. Some of the great things that we’re trying to do here is provide a student-centered learning environment, one where the classroom, the learning spaces, are flexible. Whether the furniture is able to easily move around so you have one-to-one peer working environment or a small group or a large group or. Just that flexibility and to be comfortable in it, but yet using the technology that’s available to help students be successful.”
Leifeld says the project was made possible through a one million dollar grant Iowa Lakes Community College received back in 2021…
“This all was made possible by the Iowa Department of Education, their Career Academy Incentive Fund, and that grant was created by the reauthorization of the Secure An Advance Vision for Education, or the SAVE Fund, that came available in 2019.”
Leifeld says they’ll officially unveil the new facility to the public during a special event Thursday, May 18th…
“We’ll have a ribbon cutting, we’ll have tours, we’ll have some light treats there. Please come on out and see the campus, see what’s available to our students today and how we’re combining our partnering with our industry partners to bring this new, or not new, but the forefront, what is needed for these students to be successful in these different careers.”
The May 18th event will begin at 1:00 pm at the Spirit Lake Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.
