Spencer Council Tables Culvert Replacement Project After Bids Come In Higher Than Expected

(Spencer)– The Spencer City Council Monday evening tabled action on a bid to replace some culverts on the south side of Highway 18, at Woodland Avenue, on the city’s southeast side. The action came after the lowest bid came in 12 percent over the engineer’s estimate. The city’s Finance Committee will review the matter and make a recommendation for the council to consider at their next meeting. Councilman Brian Balk serves on that committee…

“I think the bigger thing is just how this kind of overage ripples through the budget and just having a conversation about that to make sure that they’re comfortable with that.”

The project would replace a corrugated metal pipe with a concrete box culvert. It includes an alternate to put in some new pavement at a nearby intersection.
