(Spirit Lake)– Lakes Regional Healthcare is looking for some volunteers to help out in various areas of the hospital. Vice President of Marketing and Retail Services, Jennifer Gustafson, says they have a wide variety of opportunities available, both inside and outside the facility…
“Three within the hospital which include the gift shop volunteers, basically helping checking people people out, picking out gifts for themselves or others in our gift shop. We also have volunteers at our west entrance right off of Highway 71 and they welcome patients and visitors to the hospital and may direct them accordingly. They may help escort patients to various locations and they also transport patients via wheel chair. Then we also have east entrance volunteers, and this is where most of our visitors come in for our surgical patients, and so they basically again, greet people just like the west desk volunteers do, but they assist surgery patients and inpatient visitors to get where they need to be on our campus.”
Gustafson says you can also offer certain volunteer services from your home…
“There are volunteers that sew bears that we give to pediatric patients in our ER. They also knit baby caps for new born babies in our birth center, and so there are other opportunities outside of the hospital as a member of our volunteer group.”
She says a special event will be held later this month for volunteers and those interested in becoming one…
“Twice a year all of our volunteers get together for what they call a volunteer brunch. It’s a meeting and our CEO Jason Harrington gives kind of an update on what’s going on at the hospital and in the healthcare environment, but also it is where they have a nice brunch. You meet a bunch of volunteers. It’s just a nice time to chat with each other, but it’s also a way to get to know us and what opportunities are available here to volunteer. So if anyone is interested in volunteering, we really encourage them to attend that meeting. It’s on Tuesday, May 16th from like 8:45 until roughly 10:30 in our hospital’s dining room. We encourage them to come in the east entrance which is by our surgery center and then we can greet them there and bring them to the dining room and enjoy from there.”
