Officials Using Today’s Date, 420, To Drive Home Dangers Of Impaired Driving

April 20, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Undated)– Today is April 20th. Kevin Krull of the Iowa State Patrol says the notoriety of the date among marijuana users is cause to raise awareness over the dangers of impaired and distracted driving…

“In observance of the 420, which is marijuana usage holiday for those that use marijuana and what not, which is still illegal in the state of Iowa. But even more importantly, when you feel different you drive different, and that’s what we’re going to be concentrating on, is those individuals that are out there using controlled substances and then find themselves behind the wheel of a car, which can also put them in impairment.”

Krull says 36 percent of all driving fatalities the past two years in Iowa involved drugs.

Krull says the Iowa State Patrol is teaming up with local law enforcement for a special enforcement on impaired and distracted driving that continues through the rest of the month.
