Additional Housing In The Works For Spencer

April 19, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– Plans are in the works to build some more housing in Spencer. The City Council Monday authorized an application through the Workforce Housing Tax Credit program. City Manager Dan Gifford says it’s for the third phase of the Wyncrest development behind the South Park Mall on the city’s southwest side…

“They’re going to continue building housing units to the east back there. Even though the state asked them apply last year they didn’t get funded, but this year it looks like they polished some things up and they fully intend to get funded this year. Part of the Workforce Housing Tax Credits, the city has to have a local match of at least $1,000 a unit, which we will cover quite a bit more than that with our standard tax abatement program that we already have that will take care of that match. 52 units of housing is much needed in Spencer and this project will go a long ways.”

Eagle Construction is the developer of the project.
