Dickinson Co. Supervisors Review Preliminary Design For Bridge At Lower Gar Outlet

April 18, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors this (Tues.) morning reviewed preliminary plans for a bridge at the Lower Gar Outlet. County Engineer Cole Budach says it carries an estimated cost of $1.6 million…

“What is put together is a continuous concrete slab design that’s a 140 foot span and 44 foot wide. Our typical county bridge is usually installed at 30 foot wide. This extra width will better accommodate any pedestrian traffic in that area as well as bicycle traffic, fishermen, etcetra that may be using that bridge. The bridge will be replacing eight concrete arch culverts and three concrete box culverts. Grading of this bridge will not affect either one of the intersections north of it which is Hill Drive or Helen Avenue. The grading will be maintained within those boundaries so we won’t have any intersection reconstruction which is good news because it helps reduce the overall construction cost.”

Budach says the project will have to be funded locally as it does not qualify for state or federal funds. He adds that based on some past site surveys, there should be no utilities in the way of the planned construction.

The supervisors will meet jointly with the Milford City Council in the near future to gather their input, as the city also has jurisdiction in that area.

Budach says the the project is tentatively scheduled for the 2025 fiscal year.

He adds no acquisitions of right-of-way would be needed.
