(Orleans)– It was announced this (Fri.) morning gillnetting operations on the Iowa Great Lakes will NOT be taking place this year.
Kim Hawkins, Manager of the Spirit Lake Fish Hatchery, tells KUOO news they were able to fill the hatchery with eggs collected from fish gathered from Storm Lake and Clear Lake. The ice on those lakes went out much sooner than that of the Iowa Great Lakes. Most of West Lake Okoboji finally became ice free just Thursday.
Hawkins says a result, the fish hatchery in Orleans will NOT be open weekends.
