(Hospers)– One person was injured in a fire and explosion Thursday in Sioux county.
The Hospers Fire Department was called around 3:00 pm to a report of a large number of hay bales on fire four miles west of that city. Given the size of the fire, fire departments from Orange City, Alton, Boyden and Granville were called for assistance. As firefighters were arriving, authorities say a propane tank exploded. 35-year-old Eduardo Sanchez-Hidalgo of Sheldon sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to an Orange City hospital.
Authorities say a machine shed containing about 80 bales of hay was destroyed. A truck, two flatbed trailers and a mini excavator were also damaged in the fire.
Officials say the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
