(Spirit Lake)– Congressman Randy Feenstra made a lunch hour stop today (Wed.) at Godfather’s Pizza in Spirit Lake. Feenstra says he continues to hear a number of concerns from small businesses…
“The big things we’re hearing is obviously employment: how do we get employees? And the cost of employees. You know, how do you keep things going when you have to pay significant costs. There’s 10 million jobs open in the country right now and there’s only 3 million people unemployed, so this is a really big issue that we’re trying to work on from the federal level. Then obviously taxation. We have inflation going up, taxes going up. That really affects the bottom line and we learned today that’s why your pizza cost is going up, because of some of these things that are happening through inflation.”
The congressman says supply chain issues are still a concern as well…
“We have a supply chain where everybody’s buying on line so when you buy on line it’s got to go in a box. That affects the boxes that are being used for putting in pizzas. So it all goes together. People don’t always think about how all this plays out but it affects every small business on main street.”
Feenstra adds he wants to see some of the provisions in the federal tax cuts and jobs act extended…
“A lot of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that was done in 2017, they sunset here in the next year, so there’s a big push right now to continue to extend those for another several years and that’s a big part of why I’m here and trying to work on how we can extend those because it affects every small business on main street.”
The Congressman also made a stop today (Wed.) in Estherville where he participated in an Iowa Bankers roundtable discussion.
