Statewide Tornado Drill In Iowa To Be Held Wednesday (March 29th)

March 28, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– One of the highlights of this week’s observance of Severe Weather Awareness Week in Iowa is the annual statewide tornado drill. Dickinson County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Ehret says it will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am…

“If we have bad weather or something that day, for whatever reason in the state, they’ll postpone that to Thursday, I believe. But Wednesday at 10:00 am will be the statewide tornado drill. That’s the time we’re going to ask everybody just to practice your severe weather plan. Go to your severe weather safety spot whether you’re at home or at work or wherever and practice that. And we will be sounding the sirens that morning at 10:00 am as well.”

Another highlight of the week will a severe weather spotter class. It will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday evening at the Milford Fire Station. A representative with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls will be putting on the presentation, which is free of charge.
