Spirit Lake Man Wanted In Dickinson County Vehicle Theft Arrested In SW Iowa

(Sidney)– A Spirit Lake man wanted in connection with a stolen vehicle out of Dickinson County was arrested last week in southwest Iowa.

Authorities in Fremont county say a deputy located a 2015 Chrysler 200 on March 20th in the area of Highway 2 and Interstate 29. The driver, 20-year-old Kendel Schmidt, was arrested and charged with 1st degree theft. He was also being held on a Dickinson warrant.

Schmidt is also accused of assaulting a Fremont county correctional officer that resulted in minor injuries. Authorities say Schmidt tore the officer’s uniform and attempted to steal items from the same officer in an attempt to escape in an incident on Wednesday of last week. He was additionally charged with criminal mischief in the 5th degree, assault on persons in certain occupations, attempted escape and robbery in the 2nd degree.

Schmidt is being held in the Fremont county jail on a $17,300 cash bond.
