(Spirit Lake)– Authorities are alerting the public to some new scams making the rounds. Residents throughout the region have reported receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be with the Spirit Lake Police Department. The caller states that the person on the phone had a warrant for their arrest because they didn’t show up for jury duty. The caller is told that the warrant will be recalled if the person on the other end of the line pays $5,000. One of the people that received such a call said the scammer even knew their personal information.
Spirit Lake police say they do not operate in such a manner and that if you get such a call you should simply hang up and disregard it, and definitely do not give out any personal information.
