Severe Weather Awareness Week In Iowa Is Next Week (March 27th-31st)

March 24, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Next week marks the annual observance of Severe Weather Awareness Week in the state of Iowa. Dickinson County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Ehret says the primary emphasis again this year is on being prepared…

“We’re going to be changing seasons here hopefully more sooner than later. I know most everybody’s tired of the winter and myself included, but we’re ready and anxious to get into spring and farmers want to get in the field, but with that transition of seasons comes severe weather as we all know, so. It’s the time of year where we’ve got to start stop thinking about snow storms and blizzards, hopefully, and think about what we’re going to do to prepare ourselves for thunderstorms and tornadoes and things like that.”

Ehret says one major change this season will be with the protocol that’s used when sounding the sirens in Dickinson county when severe weather threatens. We’ll have much more on that in our newscasts on Monday.
