Lakes Regional Healthcare accepting Applications for Junior Volunteer Program

March 13, 2023 Becky Thoreson

(Spirit Lake)-Lakes Regional healthcare is now accepting applications for the Junior Volunteer Program. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

Preparations are in place for the Summer Junior Volunteer Program at Lakes Regional Healthcare.
Jennifer Gustafson, Vice President of Marketing and Retail Services says, applications are now being accepted. “The Summer Junior Volunteer Program is an 8 week program where high school and college students can work in either our Emergency Room, our Surgery Department or our In-Patient Departments, which are Medical/Surgical Department, CCU, Critical Care, and Obstetrics. It’s not a shadowing thing, it’s where they actually do as much work as they can without any special knowledge, or have any special certifications. So, it’s a really good opportunity for them to know what it’s like to work in health care first-hand when they’re about to go to school to possibly pursue a career in health care.”

She adds that the program is aimed at students age 16 and older. “It’s for those that are at least 16 by June 1st and up, and we have a lot of high school students, we also have a whole lot of college students actually, as well, who are studying nursing or who are pre-med and want to become a physician.”
