(Spencer)– About two blocks of East 11th Street in Spencer will permanently close to through traffic this coming May 1st. The closure is in conjunction with the construction of a new emergency department at Spencer Hospital. The city council approved the permanent closure last year.
Officials say the initial work includes demolition of four houses the hospital owns on the south side of East 11th Street, along with some dirt work.
The new emergency department will be located between the hospital and Spencer Medical Arts Building. It will include additional and larger treatment rooms, two trauma bays, and two rooms specifically designed for the care of behavioral health patients. A new waiting area and new ambulance facilities will also be included.
