(Estherville)– Officials with Iowa Lakes Community College say they’re seeing an increase in enrollment in a number of their offerings thanks to the state of Iowa’s Last-Dollar Scholarship Program. Stephen Pelzer, Director of Financial Aid, says students enrolled in qualifying programs at Iowa Lakes have received over a million dollars in scholarship aid as a result…
“The state of Iowa put it out a couple of years ago and it’s for specific programs and, you know, it really helps bridge the gap between what the student gets from federal and state aid to pay for their tuition and most of their fees, so. It’s been a good program.”
Pelzer says a number of programs offered at Iowa Lakes Community College qualify for the Last Dollar Scholarship program…
“The programs are like Ag Production, Business Administration, Construction, Farm Equipment, Nursing, Veterinary Tech., Welding, Aviation, Computer Programming, Electrician, Electrical Technology I believe it’s called, Environmental Studies, HVAC, Web Design, Wind Turbine Energy, Surgical Tech., Hotel/Motel/Restaurant Management, Digital Media, Broadcast, Legal Assistance, Water Quality, Criminal Justice, and Business Specialist would be the programs that qualify for Last Dollar Scholar.”
Pelzer says students need to meet certain guidelines to be eligible to apply…
During the Spring, 2023 term, more than 230 Iowa Lakes students received nearly $465,000 in scholarship support, with an average award of about $2,000 per student.
