(Spirit Lake)– A major winter storm will likely impact the region this week. The National Weather Service has placed most of the region under a winter storm watch from Wednesday morning through Thursday morning.
Forecasters say more than a foot of snow will fall. They say winds gusting as high as 40 to 50 mph will combine to create what could become a blizzard, with extreme blowing and drifting snow and very poor visibility.
The National Weather Service says snowfall rates Wednesday night into Thursday will be heavy at times.
Anyone with travel plans Wednesday into Thursday should pay close attention to future forecasts.
