Okoboji City Official Says He’s Keeping A Close Eye On A Bill That Could Impact Local Option Sales Tax Revenue

February 17, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Okoboji)– Okoboji’s City Administrator says he’s keeping a close eye on a bill in the Iowa Legislature that would impact the distribution of local option sales tax money. Michael Meyers says the bill could have an impact on how that revenue is distributed…

“The city gets about $240,000 per year in local option sales tax. That was a sales tax that was voted on by the city of Okoboji and it’s a tool that cities have to utilize to help keep property taxes low. So as a city we will be protective of that but we’ll continue to just watch the legislation as it moves forward.”

Meyers informed the city council of the matter at their meeting Tuesday.
