(Estherville)– The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office has released details into two recent traffic stops that resulted in arrests.
The first was back on January 28th after a report of a vehicle being driven erratically on Highway 9 near Superior. A deputy later found the vehicle being driven southbound on 375th Avenue with a flat tire and pulled it over. 42-year-old Thomas Contreras was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated, child endangerment, failure to provide proof of financial liability, no valid driver’s license and reckless driving. A seven-year-old child in the vehicle was turned over to the Iowa Department of Human Services. A search of the vehicle turned up a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Contreras was additionally charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The other incident happened February 5th after a deputy spotted a vehicle with expired registration. The vehicle was stopped in Armstrong a short time later and it was discovered the driver had a suspended driver’s license. 32-year-old Eric Burt was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license, failure to provide proof of financial responsibility, operation without registration and interference with official acts. A search warrant was also executed on the vehicle which turned up controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. Burt was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance marijuana…2nd offense, possession of a controlled substance…methamphetamine…1st offense, failure to affix a drug tax stamp and possession of drug paraphernalia.
