UDMO Gives Annual Update At Dickinson Co. Supervisors Meeting

February 07, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Officials with Upper Des Moines Opportunity say they continue to see an increase in demand for a number of programs they offer. Executive Director Julie Edwards says in Dickinson county, home energy and utility assistance programs, such as LIHEAP, are seeing some of the biggest increases…

“That went up 687 individuals. I look more at the individuals than the families because you can double count those. And then you can see the cost that UDMO put in your county of $419,547. The food program, on the second line, is our food pantry which is what most people know UDMO for, that increased by 297 individuals. Housing programs, our rental assistance, deposit assistance, and UDMO just received word that we received another housing grant this week for almost $1.5 million, so we will be having a press releases on that. It’s a HUD housing grant that we received, so that should provide more access to the citizens of your county.”

Edwards says they’re also seeing increased interest in an assistance program for senior citizens, known as CHORE. She says it provides financial assistance for services such as snow removal, lawn mowing and home repairs.

Edwards presented the information as part of an annual update at today’s (Tues.) Dickinson County Board of Supervisors meeting.
