(Burt)– A house fire early Thursday in Kossuth county claimed the life of a woman. The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office says firefighters and first responders were called around 1:30 am to 404 Walnut Street in Burt and found the house engulfed in flames.
A man got out of the house but sustained second degree burns and was taken to an Algona hospital. He was later transferred by air to the burn unit of a Mason City hospital. A woman who was also in the house at the time was unable to escape and died in the fire. No names have been released.
Firefighters from multiple departments responded to the scene.
There’s been no word on a possible cause. Authorities say it’s still under investigation.
