Voters In Round Lake-Brewster School District To Vote On Bond Referendum

February 02, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Round Lake, Mn.)– Voters in the Round Lake-Brewster School District will head to the polls February 14 to decide the fate of a $30.48 million dollar proposal for a construction project at the school in Brewster.

Cracks were discovered along with some crumbling in a wall of the 109 year old building in the fall of 2021. Some work has since been done to reinforce the failing wall. But school officials say that’s strictly a short term fix. They also say increased enrollment is making for space issues.

Plans call for the portion of the facility built in 1914 to be torn down, along with a gymnasium constructed in 1938. Those would be replaced with 20 new classrooms, a new gym, new kitchen and a shop facility, along with a new area for dropping off and picking up students. The project is scheduled for completion by August, 2025, should the bond issue be approved.

A similar issue in August of this past year fell short of approval by just seven votes.
