City Of Spirit Lake Reminds Everyone Of Ordinances For Snow Removal & Snowmobile Operators

January 10, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The city of Spirit Lake is reminding residents of ordinances pertaining to snow and ice removal from sidewalks and the operation of snowmobiles.

City officials say property owners are responsible for removing snow and ice from sidewalks abutting their property. City Code in Spirit Lake requires snow and ice be removed from the entire width and length of sidewalks within 18 hours after the conclusion of a snow or ice event. They add that if it isn’t done, the city may do it with the cost being assessed to the property owner.

City officials also remind everyone snowmobiles may only be operated on the traveled portion of the road, on the far right-hand side. Snowmobiles may not be operated on public right-of-way. They add that permission is needed from the property owner before snowmobiles can be operated on private property.
