One Area Law Enforcement Agency Releases 2022 Statistics

(Spencer)– The Spencer Police Department is out with its statistics for 2022. Officer Kyle Van Oterloo…

“We handled 15,479 complaints last year. In 2021 we handled a total of 17,161, so about a 2,000 complaint difference. In arrests this last year we had 407 the year before 359, so a little more proactive looking for things. I would like to think that comes from our patrol becoming a little bit older and maybe instead of making 50 traffic stops they make five traffic stops looking for something that will benefit the entire city instead of just writing a ticket to an out-of-towner. Could be wrong, but that’s what I’m hopeful for. And then our traffic stops here, which does show that also, we ran just shy of 3,600 traffic stops for the entire year, two years ago we were just shy of 5,000 traffic stops.”

Van Oterloo presented the numbers at this week’s Spencer City Council meeting.
