(Spirit Lake)– Travel across the region late this (Thurs.) is a real challenge, and officials are highly urging everyone to not travel unless it’s absolutely necessary. Trooper Kevin Krull of the Iowa State Patrol says road conditions have been rapidly deteriorating throughout the afternoon…
“Visibility is definitely being affected but more importantly the roadways have got that ice-covered affect to them so reduced speed is greatly needed. Highway 71 especially has got some 100 percent ice spots on it. The D.O.T is out trying to keep us safe and keep those plows going but mother nature is winning at this point.”
A winter weather advisory remains in effect for the region until Noon Friday, when conditions are expected to improve.
Most events that were scheduled for this (Thurs.) evening across the region have either been canceled or postponed.
