(Spirit Lake)-The Nutcracker Ballet returns to the Sami Center this weekend. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The American Midwest Ballet and The Iowa Great Lakes Nutcracker will present The Nutcracker Ballet Friday and Saturday at The Sami Bedell Center for the Performing Arts.
Organizer Dawn Fisher says, dozens of area dancers are involved. “We have 86 dancers who auditioned and were cast in this performance, and they’re from about a 90 mile radius. So, we have kids ages 7 and up that are in the show.”
She adds that the entire troupe from The American Midwest Ballet will join the production. “They’re fantastic. We’ve been working with them so long now, I mean, they’re not just great performers, they are so great with the kids, and that’s really important. It’s a big deal. It’s just wonderful working with them.”
She notes that tickets are available online or at the door. “I want people to realize that this is not just a small town Nutcracker, I mean, this is the same show that you would see in any big city. It’s the same one they perform in Omaha. They go to San Antonio, Oklahoma City, I mean, you’re getting a professional production which, most places, you’ll pay at least $50 a ticket, but here, because of our incredible sponsors and all the support we have, you’re going to see it for $20 a ticket.”
Performances are Friday at 7:30 pm and Saturday afternoon at 2:30.
